Romania’s unemployment rate falls to new six-year low

The unemployment rate dropped to 6.4% in March this year in Romania, down 0.1 percentage points from February. This is a new low for the last six years.

The jobless rate previously reached the lowest level since mid-2009 in February, when it went down to 6.5%.

The number of unemployed amounted to 592,000 in March, down by 5,000 compared to the previous month, according to recent data from the National Statistics Institute (INS). In March 2015, the total number of unemployed in Romania was of 613,000.

The unemployment is higher among men (6.9% in March) compared to women (5.8%).

In the case of adults, aged 25-75, the unemployment rate went slightly down from 5.4% in February to 5.3% in March. The unemployed in this age group represented 77.2% of the total number of jobless people in March.
