Romania’s President congratulates U.S. President elect Donald Trump

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis sent a letter of congratulations to U.S. President elect Donald Trump, after Trump’s surprising victory became official on Wednesday morning.

Iohannis pointed out that Romania and the U.S. have a solid relationship and that the strategic partnership for the XXI century between the two countries is a key element in defining Romania’s strategic role as a member of NATO and the European union.

He also underlined Romania’s firm commitment to deepen the bilateral cooperation in the security sector and to act as an ally and strategic partner of the U.S., fully acknowledging the implications and responsibilities of this position.

Iohannis also emphasized the importance of developing the economic partnership between Romania and the U.S., which offers “numerous opportunities to bring more prosperity to both nations”.

He expressed his full openness to work with the new U.S. President for promoting the common objectives and a strong and dynamic trans-Atlantic relationship.
