Romania's M&A market reaches USD 1.1 billion

The Romanian mergers and acquisitions market reached USD 1.1 billion in the first six months of the year, down almost 50% compared to the same period last year, according to the EY M&A Barometer.

Romania ranked fifth among the Central and Eastern European Countries, with 56 transactions recorded between January and June 2016, down 30% compared to the same period in 2015. The most active foreign investors came from Germany, France, and Poland.

The most attractive sector in Romania was the industrial one, whereas in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Bulgaria investors were most interested in the IT sector.

At general level, the total value of the transactions in the CEE region amounted to USD 14.1 billion, down 14.3% over the previous year. Some 655 transactions were concluded in the region during this period, with the Czech Republic being the most active country in terms of volume of transactions. It was followed by Turkey, Poland, and Hungary.
