Romania's largest bank runs out of funds for First House program

07 April 2016

The largest Romanian bank BCR has exhausted all the funds for the First House state-backed mortgage lending program.

The bank currently has a waiting list of 2,000 customers that have submitted loan requests. The lender has asked the Finance Ministry to increase the ceiling for these clients.

The requests for the First House program have intensified as talks have started about whether the program would be included in the new law on mortgage loans. However, the Legal Committee of the Parliament has decided this week to remove the program from the law.

BCR has received 4,900 requests for the First House program since the beginning of the year.
