Euro 2016: Romania national football team coach makes 40 times less than England's Roy Hodgson

24 March 2016

Anghel Iordanescu, the Romanian national football team's manager, is the worst paid coach at the Euro 2016.

Iordanescu makes EUR 120,000 per year, over 40 times less than England's Roy Hodgson, who is the best-paid coach, making EUR 5 million per year, reports local Digisport.ro.

Only Leonid Slutsky, who coaches the Russian national football team, makes less money than Anghel Iordanescu, but that’s because he coaches the team for free. Also, the salary of Hungary’s Bernd Storck is not known.

The European Football Championship (Euro 2016) in France brings together 24 national teams this year, the highest number in the competition's history. Romania has qualified for this tournament and Romania will play the opening match against hosts France, on June 10. Next, Romania’s team will play against Switzerland on June 15 and against Albania on June 19.

Italian manager Giani de Biasi, who helped Albania qualify for the European Football Championship for the first time, earns EUR 280,000 per year, more than twice what Iordanescu is paid. France's Didier Deschamps gets EUR 2 million per year.

The Euro 2016 will take place between June 10 and July 10. Find out more information here.
