Romania’s hydropower consumption down by 12%

Romania’s hydropower consumption dropped by 11.9% last year, to 3.7 million tons of oil equivalent (toe), and represented 0.4% of the worldwide consumption, according to the data centralized by British Petroleum.

In the last ten years, Romania recorded the highest hydropower consumption in 2005 and 2010, namely 4.6 million toe, respectively 4.5 million toe, reports local Economica.net.

The countries that consumed the biggest amounts of hydropower included China, with 254.9 million toe, Canada - 86.7 million toe, and Brazil - 81.7 million toe. In the European Union, the hydropower consumption totaled 76.4 million toe and represented 8.6% of the worldwide consumption.
