Romania's Government takes stand on the sale of historical building

19 August 2016

Romania’s Culture Ministry has reacted to the possible sale of the historical house that belonged to the famous Romanian pianist Dinu Lipatti.

The Government has warned that the owners hadn’t submitted a pre-emption offer to the state, as the law requires. Thus, any potential sale contract can be cancelled.

The Dinu Lipatti house, located in the center of Bucharest, was put up for sale for EUR 1.9 million at the beginning of August. It was put up for sale following a foreclosure, after the current owners couldn’t pay a bank loan.

The building is on Bucharest’s historical monuments list. The Culture Ministry has warned that the house couldn’t be sold to be demolished.

The state has the right to make the first offer for the historical buildings.
