Romania's Finance Ministry wants to extend First House Program for five years

03 November 2016

Romania’s Finance Ministry plans to extend the First House Program for five years, not annually, as it has been so far.

It still needs to establish ceiling guarantees and some details on the quality of homes that can be acquired with a state guarantee, according to finance minister Anca Dragu, reports local Economica.net.

“We thought that the program should be multi-annual, not like before, to have predictability. All those interested should be able to make a medium-term plan,” she added.

The five-year timeframe would remove “this feeling of insecurity”. She added that authorities are not considering to restrict the program to new constructions.

The minister explained that data provided by the Prognosis Commission prove that Romania is behind other EU countries on the number of dwellings per capita.
