Romania's EU Funds Minister asks prosecutors to check IT system

24 June 2016

The European Funds Ministry, led by Cristian Ghinea, has demanded the anticorruption prosecutors to control how the IT system used by the management authority for environment EU funds has been purchased, reports local Digi24.

The contract was worth EUR 38 million, and the software was bought without being tested, the minister said.

The contract was awarded to a joint venture, which included the company One Expert owned by the Romanian investor Sebastian Ghita, who is currently investigated by the anti-corruption prosecutors. Ghita said that he had nothing to do with One Expert and that he would sue the minister Ghinea for his accusations.

Ghinea launched on Wednesday an attack against the former Prime Minister Victor Ponta. The current EU funds Minister accused Ponta of lying about the current EU funds absorption rate.
