Romania’s electro-IT market sees highest increase in the region

23 August 2016

Romania’s market for home appliance, electronics and IT equipment posted the highest growth among the countries in the region in the first six months of the year.

With an increase of 15.4%, it exceeded Austria (5.6%), Hungary (4.5%), and the Czech Republic (1.8%), according to data from Gfk Temax.

Despite the increase, the consumption per capita in Romania remains one of the lowest in Europe. If the electro-IT market keeps a growth pace of 15% per year, Romania could reach the current level of the Czech Republic in five years, said Iulian Stanciu, CEO of the largest local online retailer eMag, cited by local Ziarul Financiar.

The market could reach a level comparable to Western Europe in 20 years, he added.
