Romania's Competition Council wants to check the cement market

07 April 2016

The Competition Council has started a sectorial inquiry on Romania’s cement production and retail market.

In the Council’s report on competition in key sectors, the cement market ranked last among 21 industries between 2013 and 2015. It showed the lowest competitive pressure.

If the Council finds irregularities, it will issue recommendations for the market’s development. If it’s the case, the Council may also start investigations on possible competition law violations.

During the inquiry, the Competition Council can ask for information and documents from all the companies active on the local cement production and retail market. Holcim Romania, Carpatcement Holding (part of German group Heidelberg Cement), and Irish group CRH are the main cement producers in Romania.
