Romania's Competition Council investigates family doctors on price fixing

11 May 2017

The Competition Council has initiated an investigation into the health services that are not reimbursed by the National Health Insurance House and are paid directly by the patients.

The case deals with a possible anti-competitive agreement between two important organizations representing family doctors on fixing prices for health services that are not reimbursed by the National Health Insurance House (CNAS).

The Competition Council carried out unexpected controls at the headquarters of these organizations, according to a press release the institution issued yesterday. The searches represent a preliminary stage in the investigation and don’t necessarily mean that the investigated parties breached the competition law.

The authorities should draft regulations that will establish at national level an exhaustive list of medical services that can be provided to patients for a fee, according to a recommendation of the Competition Council.
