Romania's Chamber of Deputies, Senate get lower budgets compared to 2016

Romania’s Chamber of Deputies, which is the institution with the main legislative powers in Romania, voted yesterday its budget for this year.

This will amount to over RON 245 million (EUR 54 million), down 17.9% compared to the previous year, reports local Mediafax. The personnel costs total over EUR 39 million.

The Senate also adopted its budget yesterday, which amounts to over RON 120 million (EUR 26 million). By comparison, the Senate had a budget of RON 180 million last year.

Social-democratic leader Liviu Dragnea, who is also the president of the Chamber of Deputies, announced on Sunday evening in a TV show that the Chamber of Deputies’ budget would drop by 20% this year compared to 2016, explaining that “we need to better save the money”.

He added that the budget of several institutions, including the Presidential Administration, Senate, and intelligence services would be cut by about 20% this year.
