Romania's Anticorruption Directorate buys digital surveillance equipment

23 August 2016

Romania’s National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) will acquire IT and technical equipment to analyze digital information from investigations.

The institution will pay RON 860,000 (EUR 193,0000), without VAT, for digital recorders, stereo microphones, video cameras, including night cameras, servers, data analysis stations, and software programs, reports local Capital.ro. They will also buy Faraday bags that block mobile phones’ signal or wireless networks that could compromise the content and contaminate the data.

The contract has a four-month duration after its attribution. The public tender will take place at the end of September, and 80% of the financing comes from EU non-reimbursable funds.

DNA needs its own equipment as the prosecutors are not allowed to use the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) for surveillance missions anymore.
