Tour operators in Romania expect a summer season with unprecedented sales for the local seaside resorts.

The recent tensions in Western Europe, after the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels as well as ISIS threats on London, Rome, and Berlin, have made more Romanians turn to local destinations for the summer holiday, especially at the seaside, according to representatives of the Seaside-Danube Delta Association (ALDD).

“The things that are happening around us, in Europe, currently favor the sales for holidays at the Romanian seaside. So far, the number of sold holidays has increased by 50-60% compared to the same period last year,” said Corina Martin, president ALDD, cited by local Mediafax.

According to her, Mamaia-Navodari and Vama Veche top the local seaside resorts’ ranking, based on sales. The extended beaches in Mamaia and Eforie Nord are also expected to attract a large number of people this summer.

The Romanian seaside resorts will host a large number of events this summer, including music, sports, and cultural activities. Mamaia stands out through its Mamaia Style campaign, which includes several European and international competitions, according to Corina Martin. The events are to bring important names to Romania, such as Russian chess master Anatoli Karpov and Prince Albert de Monaco.
