Most Romanians go on holiday once a year and prefer to spend it in Romania, Bulgaria or Greece, according to a survey made by the Romanian portal www.infoturism.ro in cooperation with iVox. Respondents to this survey book their holiday directly in the travel agency and prefer the own car as transportation.

“Inside Romania, most bookings went to Mamaia and Eforie Nord with 33 percent. Regarding Bulgary, Golden Sands and Sunny Beach collected in 2010 the highest number of bookings (45 percent). On the third place comes Greece, the favorites being Corfu and Thassos Islands - 33 percent, according to the survey. Other two favourite destinations were Turkey and Austria.

2011 seems to be similar, as the same holiday destinations are desired. On the top of the searchings stay mountain areas in Romania, especially in Transylvania and Maramures areas, along with Spain - Barcelona.

The survey indicates that once a year, the majority of the respondents (49.81 percent) spend their holidays elsewhere than at home. A much smaller ratio (27.82 percent) are also spending their holiday away from home, but twice a year.

“Regarding the transportation, their own car is the most popular solution. The bus and plane are just some other options. 34.94 percent of the respondents said they never use the bus and 48 percent say they never fly,” writes the report.

Payment options were also subject of the survey. The majority (69.22 percent) prefers to pay directly at the travel agency. A small percentage (21.04 percent), but on the up, prefers on-line payments, while 9.73 percent choose bank wires.

Among domestic holiday destinations, the Romania Black Seaside has won the majority of votes, with 49 percent. Transylvania and Maramures follow, while Bucovina ranks 4th.

The survey was carried on 4,120 respondents, of which 60.27 percent women and 39.73 percent men.
