Two Romanian universities among the world’s best 1,000 universities

The University of Bucharest and the Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj are among the world’s best 1,000 universities, according to the 2015 classification published by Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

The University of Bucharest is at number 986 in the ranking, followed by the Babes-Bolyai University on 987. Both universities had a score of 44.04 points.

US universities lead the ranking. Harvard University is at number one (with a score of 100 points), followed by Stanford University (98.66) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (97.54). The top ten is completed by UK’s University of Cambridge and University of Oxford, and USA’s Columbia University, University of California, Berkeley, University of Chicago, Princeton University, and Cornell University.

On the other hand, Spain’s University of A Coruna, and China Pharmaceutical University come last in the ranking.

CWUR assessed 25,000 universities for this ranking. It uses eight indicators to rank the best universities in the world, namely the quality of education, the alumni employment, the quality of faculty, publications, influence, citations, broad impact, and patents.

The University of Bucharest ranks 237th based on the quality of education while the Babes-Bolyai University is at number 367. Based on the quality of faculty, both Romanian universities are at number 218.
