Romanian thermal energy producer awards EUR 5.6 mln contract to GE

Bucharest-based thermal energy producer Elcen has concluded a maintenance and service contract with General Electric Global Services.

The company, which is the service division of the US group General Electric, will get EUR 5.6 million in exchange for providing service and maintenance to the gas turbine operated by the CTE Bucuresti Vest plant. The contract will unfold over six years.

General Electric Global Services took part in the online public tender organized by Elcen between May and August. Only two companies submitted bids.

CTE Bucuresti Vest is a cogeneration power plant that produces both heat and electricity. It has an installed power of 200 MW. The plant started operating in 2009 after a EUR 160 million investment.

Elcen is a state-owned company as the Energy Ministry holds 97.5% of its shares. The company had a turnover of EUR 341 million and a net profit of EUR 24.2 million in 2015.
