Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu breaks USD 4 mln win barrier after making it to Grand Slam Australian Open second leg

15 January 2014

Romanian tennis player Victor Hanescu, number 76 ATP, recently became the second Romanian to have exceeded the USD 4 million threshold in tennis wins. Hanescu recently secured a USD 45,000 cheque for qualifying for the second leg of the Grand Slam Australian Open.

He joins Andrei Pavel, who had made some USD 5.2 million via his wins as a tennis pro, and Ilie Nastase, with a win of USD 2 million.

For women, Irina Sparlea and Sorana Cristea managed to make the most of their tennis wins, with some USD 2.6 million each. The amounts and the rankings however do not take into account inflation, nor the increase in prize values.
