Romania’s tax authority ANAF recently published an official calculator which allows car owners in Romania to calculate how much they have to pay according to the new environment tax law, which changed at the beginning of this year.
The tax, now called an environmental stamp tax, is lower for old cars, as well as for the new ones with low carbon dioxide emissions. The tax went up considerably for Euro3 models which are around 10 years old.
The higher the level of CO2 emissions, the higher the tax for the same model and with the same age, according to the new calculator tool. When all the other measurements stay the same but the car is older, over 14 years, the tax goes down by almost a half. For example, for a Euro3 passenger car with an engine capacity of 1,900 cubic centimeters, which is 12 years old and produces 112 grams of CO2 per kilometer, the tax is of 622 EUR- or some RON 2,800.
