Romanian song of the week – Play by Moonlight Breakfast

09 October 2012

Our most recent discovery is the Romanian band Moonlight Breakfast. Initially we heard what we think is their most recent song, called 'Shout', but we had to listen to a couple more to decide which one to feature in this article this week.

The sound of Hello and Shout is quite similar, the same kind of beat, but the song 'No more' proved to be something else. Still distinguishable is the band's signature jazzy, groovy beat, but the song itself is different. Definitely a good contender. The next one, Play, piqued our interest, as it is more of a dancing tune, but at the same time has a laid back feel. Dancier tune, interesting beat, good voice, a non-commercial sound, piano and trumpet, retro feel, definitely a winning recipe in our book. We decided to feature it this week, but we'd encourage you to listen to the other songs – we posted all the videos below, so you can choose which one you like best. Between writing this column and choosing the actual song to feature, we ended up listening to their whole album.

Moonlight Breakfast are Bazooka- the producer, plays drums, clarinet, Christie-vocals, sampler, Adita- keys, guitar, sampler, Printzu- bass, electric guitar. They define their genre as retroelectro, “topped off with jazzy vocals, that will keep you grooving." They opened for Jamiroquai in 2011 in the Bucharest concert. A big round of applause for Moonlight Breakfast!
