Romanian railway company: more than one in four passengers caught traveling without tickets

More than one in four passengers travelling by train in Romania do not buy tickets, a recent control operation carried out by local railway company CFR Calatori revealed.

CFR Calatori organized a control operation in cooperation in three trains on August 24.

A total of 1,000 passengers were checked during this operation, and 269 of them were caught traveling without tickets, according to a statement from CFR Calatori. While 236 agreed to pay the higher ticket price charged in the train, 33 refused to do so and were fined.

The three trains checked during the control action were R 9190 Bucharest Nord – Targoviste, R 8013 Bucharest Obor – Fetesti, and IR 1597 Bucharest – Craiova.

CFR Calatori announced that it would continue the control actions in the coming period.
