Romanian President signs law on removing health contributions for pensions

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis announced yesterday that he would promulgate the law on removing health contributions for all pensions and cutting the income tax for the pensions below RON 2,000.

The project was introduced via a bill issued by the new government coalition. Iohannis said that he would promulgate the law in the next days.

The President met yesterday with Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu and Finance Minister Viorel Stefan to discuss on the 2017 budget. Following the meeting, Iohannis said that it’s important to maintain the deficit within the limit of 3%.

One week ago, the Chamber of Deputies approved the new fiscal measures regarding the pensioners’ health care contributions and income tax. During the debates, National Liberal Party representatives said that they would submit a draft project for removing the income tax for all the pensions, not only for those below RON 2,000.
