Romanian President earns EUR 18,000 from book sales

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis earned over EUR 18,000 from intellectual property rights last year, but lost a house and no longer holds accounts in euro, according to his wealth statement published on the Presidential Administration’s website last week, cited by local Agerpres.

He and his wife own two apartments in Sibiu, as well as three houses. The President no longer holds an apartment of 166 sqm acquired in 1999.

According to last year’s wealth statement, the president held three active accounts at the Romanian lender BCR, one of EUR 13,500, one of USD 9,000, and one of RON 161,000 (EUR 35,500). In the current statement, the president only has an account of RON 295,000 (over EUR 65,000).

As for the earnings, he mentioned his president salary of EUR 29,500 per year as well as some EUR 18,000 resulted from the sale of his autobiographic books. His wife earned about EUR 4,975 from her teacher salary.
