Romanian police officers to be equipped with tablets by the end of the year

19 August 2016

Romania’s Ministry of Interior will equip police officers on patrol with tablets. This is part of a pilot project implemented in Bucharest, Constanta and Brasov counties.

The first tablets will be delivered by the end of the year.

“With these devices, the police officers will benefit from secure and rapid access to databases, and will be able to introduce information into the system on the spot,” reads a statement from the Ministry.

Thus, the policemen will be able to identify people faster, with the possibility to check their data and photo in real time. The teams who respond to emergency calls will also be able to find more about the place where the incident occurred and the people involved before reaching the scene.

Within this pilot project, which has a value of some EUR 512,000, the Romanian Police General Inspectorate will buy 665 tablets, and will develop the secure networking and communication system for them.

After the implementation of this pilot project, which is developed with EU funds, the program might be expanded to the intervention teams of the Romanian Gendarmerie, the General Inspectorate for Immigration, and the Romanian Border Police.
