The Prime Minister has decided to send the Control Body to check if the disinfectant tests the Health Ministry has carried out in public hospitals have been rigurous, said the Government’s spokesman Dan Suciu.

“The Government has taken the responsibility for a series of measures, some of them emergent, some of them on the short term, to destress the situation in the healthcare system,” Suciu said.

The Control Body will also check the Biocid Committee within the Health Ministry that establishes the criteria for disinfectants used in hospital.

Health minister Patriciu-Achimas Cadariu said earlier this week that less than 5% of the samples taken from public healthcare units in Romania to check for the efficiency of the disinfectants used to combat hospital germs were nonconforming. The Health Ministry publicly announced these results after a journalist investigation revealed that hundreds of hospitals in Romania have been buying diluted disinfectants from a local firm for years.
