Romanian Parliament committee ups mayors’ salaries by 30%

25 April 2017

The Labor Committee within Romania’s Chamber of Deputies yesterday adopted an amendment that increases by 30% the salaries of local and county councilors, mayors and deputy mayors, county council presidents and county council deputy presidents.

The wage growth targets the people who are heading the local administration in Romania.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) MP Marcel Ciolacu said that this amendment will reduce the situations where some civil servants have higher salaries than mayors or county council presidents.

The local administration in Romania is represented by mayors, who are in charge of cities or villages, together with local councils, as well as county council presidents who lead Romania’s counties and manage the budgets allotted by the central authorities for each county.
