A Romanian MP was caught red handed taking a EUR 50,000 bribe late last week. Alin Trăşculescu, an MP from the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL), agreed to take EUR 50,000 from the businessman who turned informer. According to prosecutors, Trăşculescu did not take the money per se, but agreed to have the money delivered to him.
He was arrested for one night over the week-end but was later released during his investigation. He is being investigated for trading influence, instigating forgery and money laundering. Romania’s Chamber of Deputies will now have 20 days to decide whether or not to lift Trăşculescu’s immunity so he can face criminal proceedings.
Alin Trăşculescu is the president of PDL Vrancea and is running for office as an MP in the upcoming elections.
