Suposed explosion at Romanian mall proves to be false alarm

08 September 2016

The clients of a mall in Focsani, eastern Romania, went through some quite scary moments on Thursday, September 8, when the ceiling a cinema hall from the mall collapsed due to what was initially believed to be an explosion.

A local website even wrote that an explosive device may have caused the blast, quoting one of the witnesses, who was, in fact, the only person who got injured in this incident. The Romanian Intelligence Service - SRI's bomb squad was called to the site.

However, the first on-site investigation showed that there were no traces of an explosion at the cinema. The cinema’s drop ceiling collapsed indeed, but the cause was quite different.

A man apparently tried to enter the cinema without paying a ticket by climbing on a scaffold and entering into the space between the real and the fake ceilings, reports local Digi24. Under the man’s weight, the ceiling collapsed over the cinema seats. Luckily, no one other than the man was hurt as there was no movie running at that time.

The man got injured to the face and hands and was taken to hospital. The police opened an investigation in this case.
