Romanian group Teamnet opens first R&D center for robots

14 December 2016

Teamnet International, an IT group founded by Romanian MP and investor Sebastian Ghita, will open the first research and development center in the field of autonomous robots at the beginning of next year.

The center will be located near the Clinceni airfield. The project called “Autonomous R&D Center" has been developed over two years and represents the first initiative of this type in the country, according to the company.

The R&D center will create unmanned aircraft in the first stage, and plans to develop land and naval systems later on. The center will provide product development from prototype stage to serial production.

Ghita, who founded the company, is being prosecuted for using unauthorized information, bribery, influence peddling, and extortion. However, he claims he doesn’t have any connection to the company anymore.

Teamnet group is officially controlled by its CEO, Bogdan Padiu. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Black Sea Trade & Development Bank (BSTDB) are the group’s minority shareholders.

Teamnet has been one of the fastest growing companies in Romania in recent years, its turnover reaching some EUR 93 million in 2014, from under EUR 1 million in 2005.
