Romanian Government adopts General Transport Master Plan

15 September 2016

Romania’s Government adopted yesterday the General Transport Master Plan, a strategic document that sets out the main development directions for Romania’s transport infrastructure in the next 15 years.

The document looks into the development of road, train, water, air, and multimodal transport.

“The masterplan provides the construction of over 6,800 kilometers of road, of which over 1,500 kilometers of highway and over 1,300 kilometers of express road,” said transport minister Sorin Buse.

The plan also provides measures for modernizing 5,000 kilometers of railways, 12 airports, and 32 bridges.

The minister said that the plan is the ex-ante condition for accessing EU funds for infrastructure and transports. Romania wants to invest EUR 43.5 billion in infrastructure by 2030, according to the document.
