Romanian fencer wins international epée event in France

ana maria branzaRomanian Ana Maria Branza has won the Saint Maur World Cup fencing event in Paris, France. In the team event of the women's epée competition, held in the Saint Maur des Fosse municipality, south east of Paris, Romania came third.

Ana Maria Branza overcame Hungarian Emese Szasz in the final on Saturday (March 2 ), winning by 11 – 6. The Saint Maur event counts towards the world rankings, so Ana Maria Branza's place will improve when the fencing world governing body FIE updates the individual scores. Currently ranked fifth, Ana Maria will move up to third in the world rankings when the 32 points for the win in Saint Maur are added to her tally.

Irina Embrich of Estonia and Emma Samuelsson from Sweden tied for third place in the individual event. Meanwhile in the team competition, held yesterday (March 3 ), Russia won and Hungary came second, with Romania clinching third place over host nation France.
