Romanian farmers could see record wheat harvest

03 May 2016

Romanian farmers could harvest over 4 tons of wheat per hectare this year, thus setting a new record, according to a European Commission report.

This would represent a growth of over 17% compared to the average harvests in the last five years, reports local Economica.net.

However, the crop yield would remain below the EU average, estimated at 5.85 tons per hectare, down by 2.9% compared to the previous year, but up by 4.5% compared to the average of the last five years.

The highest wheat crop yields are estimated for Ireland (9.67 tons per hectare), Belgium (9.17 tons per hectare), and the Netherlands (9.19 tons per hectare).
