Romanian Cyberint: 10 new cyber-attacks could follow in the coming period

18 May 2017

The National Cyberint Center, the cyber intelligence center of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), said some 10 new cyber-attacks could follow in the coming period, News.ro reported.

Cyberint has informed the 54 public institutions it serves about 10 likely cyber-attacks besides WannaCry/WannaCrypt. However, according to the center's representatives, there can be hundreds and even thousands such attacks.

"We have sent an analysis on 10 possible attacks that could happen in the coming period, which could mean weeks, months. Cyber-attacks happen every day by the thousands. Some of them are ample ones. This is how they get in the media and become known. Others are anonymous but they do happen," said Anton Rog, head of the Cyberint, quoted by News.ro.

Regarding the cyber-security exercise of the past days, the Cyberint head said both public and private institutions are ready and can handle a future cyber-attack. "A good percentage of them will be able to handle a future cyber-attack," Rog said.

He added that all those with a licensed and updated operating system are safe from cyber-incidents.

Rog said the previous cyber-attack at the Foreign Affairs Ministry was a "targeted, surgical one," for certain employees of the ministry, but the SRI stopped it.
