Romanian Court reduces fine for Philips’s anti-competitive behavior

07 April 2016

The Bucharest Court of Appeal has reduced five times a Competition Council’s fine against appliance retailer Philips Romania.

The competition watchdog fined Philips some RON 5 million (EUR 1.1 million), in March 2014, for having concluded an anti-competitive agreement with other 13 companies. The court ruled that Philips should pay only RON 1 million (EUR 224,000), reports local Profit.ro.

In 2014, the Competition Council sanctioned 14 local companies for anti-competitive agreements related to buy-back campaigns. The fines totaled some EUR 12.7 million. Arctic had to pay the highest fine, of some EUR 5.4 million, followed by Electrolux Romania (EUR 2.2 million).

In December 2015, the Bucharest Court of Appeal cancelled the fine against Electrolux.
