Romanian Chamber of Deputies' president believes that his salary is too big

12 January 2017

Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Liviu Dragnea said that he, as president of the Chamber of Deputies, together with the Senate president Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, president Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu have wages of RON 21,500 (EUR 4,800), but that he wishes to return to a wage of RON 6,800 (EUR 1,512).

“I think it’s exaggerated, considering that we talk about a minimum wage of RON 1,450,” Dragnea said, reports local Mediafax.

The bill on increasing the officials’ salaries is now debated again in the Chamber of Deputies. Dragnea said that he would agree with these wages only if a new wage law is adopted and all the Romanians have higher salaries.

The law for increasing the officials’ salaries was adopted in July 2015. It was proposed by the former deputy prime minister Gabriel Oprea.
