Romanian car producer Dacia sees record sales in France in 2016

Romanian car producer Dacia sold a record number of 110,529 cars in France last year, up 13.4% compared to the previous year, according to data published on Sunday by the French car maker committee CCFA, reports Le Figaro.

French car producer Renault, which owns Dacia, also scored the highest sales in France after 2011. On a market that grew by 5.1%, Renault recorded a growth of 6.6%, selling almost 408,000 cars.

In total, over 2 million cars were sold in France last year. Renault saw a market share of 20.2% last year up 0.3% compared to the previous year. The Dacia brand recorded a share of 5.48% on the French car market.

Philippe Buros, Renault commercial director for France, said that the renewal of their range allowed them to grow, and that the company is expecting even better results for 2017.

In December, the Renault car registrations recorded a growth of 2.4% whereas the Dacia sales saw an increase of 6.5%, up to 9,770 units. Overall, 194,381 cars were registered in France in December, up 5.8% year-on-year.

Romanian car producer Dacia was taken over by Renault in 1999 and reentered the French market in 2004, with the Logan model.
