Romanian authorities can evict apartment owners in seismic risk buildings

05 December 2016

The Romanian local authorities will be able to forcefully evict the owners of apartments located in buildings with high seismic risk until the buildings are consolidated, according to an information confirmed by the Government, reports local Profit.ro.

If people refuse to open the door to the authorities, they can be forced to do so through a judge’s order. During the renovation period, they will be moved to temporary houses provided by the city hall.

After the strengthening works is completed, the apartment owners, as well as the companies that own spaces in that building, need to accept to pay back the money spent with the refurbishment through monthly installments with a yield of 5% per year.

One year ago, the authorities obliged all companies such as cafes, restaurants, bank units, shops, cinemas, and theatres operating in buildings with a high seismic risk to close their businesses.
