Romania, third in the EU for net cash inflows from individuals

Romania was third in the European Union (EU), in 2015, for the surplus in personal fund transfers from abroad.

The difference between the money transferred to Romania by people living abroad and the money transferred abroad from people in the country was EUR 1.74 billion, according to the EU statistical office Eurostat.

Only Poland and Portugal saw higher net personal transfers from abroad, namely EUR 2.97 billion and EUR 2.59 billion.

Romania saw cash inflows from individuals abroad worth EUR 2.17 billion, three-quarters of which came from other EU countries. Meanwhile, the outflows totaled EUR 429 million, with close to EUR 300 million going to other EU countries.

France, UK, Italy, and Germany saw the highest net personal outflows.
