Romania’s wine production has increased by 37% this year to 4.8 million hectoliters, after two years of consecutive declines, according to estimates of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).

The country thus recorded the highest production advance in the world. Despite this, Romania hasn’t managed to climb up among the large wine producers and remained on the 13th place.

Italy strengthened its position as global leader, with a wine production of 48.8 million hectoliters, down 2% from 50 million hectoliters in 2015. It was followed by France, with 41.9 million hectoliters, down 12% year-on-year, and Spain, with 37.8 million hectoliters, up 1%.

The US came next, with 22.5 million hectoliters, up 2%, followed by Australia, with 12.5 million hectoliters, up 5% year-on-ear.
