Romania records highest growth in construction in the EU

Romania saw the highest monthly increase in construction work among the European Union countries in February this year (compared to January), namely 5.1%.

By comparison, construction work dropped by 0.4% in the European Union and by 1.1% in the Eurozone, in the same period, according to Eurostat data.

The biggest drops were recorded in France (-6%), Sweden (-5.1%), and Slovenia (-4.1%). Romania, the United Kingdom (+3.1%), and Bulgaria (+2.7%) saw the highest increases.

However, Romania also had the second steepest monthly drop in construction in January (compared to December 2015), of -9.7%.

Romania’s yearly growth in construction (February 2016 compared to February 2015) was 8.1%. It was surpassed by Slovakia, with 18.8%, Spain, with 13%, and Sweden, with 8.1%.

Slovenia, Hungary and Poland recorded the biggest annual decreases.
