The European Union’s Office for Intellectual Property recorded almost 90,000 requests for the registration of a EU trade mark last year.

Romania accounted for only 652 of the requests, or 1% of the total, according to the EU’s statistical office Eurostat. Germany ranked first, with over 20,000 requests, namely 23% of the total.

Based on the number of inhabitants, Luxembourg saw the largest number of requests, namely 2,190 requests per one million inhabitants. Romania had 32.8 requests per one million people.

In total, the requests for EU trademark registrations rose by four times last year compared to mid-90s.
