Romania invited to next year’s Invictus Games

The Canadian Government has officially invited Romania to participate in the 2017 Invictus Games with a team of Paralympic athletes, wounded soldiers, and veterans of the theaters of operations, according to a statement from the Romanian Ministry of National Defense.

The invitation came following discussions between the Romanian defense minister and the chief of General Staff and their Canadian counterparts.

Thus, the Ministry of Defense has initiated the process of confirming the country’s participation and registering the Romanian team to the 2017 edition of the Games. The Ministry, via the Paralympic Section of Steaua Bucuresti Military Sports Club, carries out the process, the athletes’ selection, and the strategy of preparation and training.

Invictus Games are organized by the Foundation with the same name, under the patronage of Britain’s Prince Harry. The event aims to increase public awareness about wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women, and encourage and support their physical recovery and rehabilitation through sports.

The Invictus Games’ first edition took place in London in 2014. This year’s edition of the event was organized in Orlando, Florida between May 8 and May 12, while the 2017 Invictus Games will take place in Toronto, Canada from September 24 to September 30.
