Romania, most active country in the region for sale of bad loans

Romania was the most active country in Central and Eastern Europe for the sales of non-performing loan portfolios last year. It had estimated sales of EUR 2.5 billion, according to the study Deloitte Deleveraging Europe 2015-2016.

The country will remain the most active country this year too.

A number of key transactions that started at the end of 2015 are still in progress in Romania, said Radu Dumitrescu, Director of the Romanian Financial Advisory Practice within Deloitte Romania. They are the key factors influencing the market’s tendencies this year.

The most active buyers in CEE included Deutsche Bank, Kredyt Inkaso, Kruk, and APS. Romanian lenders Banca Comercială Romana (BCR), Unicredit Tiriac Bank, and Piraeus Romania were among the most active sellers.
