Romania has lowest share of employees in culture in EU

Romania has the lowest share of employees in culture of all EU member states, with only 1.2% of the country’s total employees working in this sector, according to a report published by the EU’s statistical office Eurostat yesterday.

Between 2011 and 2015, the number of employees in the cultural industries grew steadily, with 410,000 more jobs in the fields of culture in the European Union in 2015 compared to 2011.

In 2015, nearly 6.5 million people were employed in the cultural sector in the European Union. The sector accounted for almost 3% of total employees.

The highest shares of people employed in the cultural domain was registered in Luxembourg (4.4%), Estonia and Sweden (4.1%), and Finland (4%). At the opposite end were countries such as Romania (1.2%), Slovakia (2%), Greece (2.1%), and Bulgaria and Portugal (2.3%).
