Romania increases subsidies for electric car purchases

21 April 2016

The citizens and companies who buy 100% electric cars will get a state subsidy of about EUR 6,000 through the Rabla Plus governmental program, according to environment minister Cristina Pasca Palmer.

Besides the RON 6,500 (EUR 1,460) vouchers the state grants to those who dispose of their old cars, the Government will also grant an eco-voucher of RON 20,000 (close to EUR 4,500) to those who purchase electric cars. The eco-voucher for hybrid cars is RON 5,000 (EUR 1,120).

Besides covering a part of the costs for electric car purchases, the Government also plans to support the companies that create charging infrastructure for electric cars. The authorities are currently working on the financing guide for investments in charging infrastructure.

Electric car sales have increased in Romania, in recent months, but are still very low compared to those in other European countries.
