Romania exports EUR 38 mln worth of guns and military equipment in three months

Romania exported weapons and military equipment worth over EUR 38 million in the first three months of 2016, according to the Department of Export Control (ANCEX) within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The figure is lower than the one registered in the same period in 2015, of over EUR 43 million.

Romania exported military products worth some EUR 19 million to the U.S., including 1,900 semiautomatic rifles, 500 guns, 300 lightweight machine guns, 4,500 assault rifles, 100 machine guns with a caliber of 12.7 mm, 80 one-barrel anti-aircraft guns, 300 anti-tank grenade launchers with a caliber of 40 mm, and various equipment and accessories, reports local Mediafax.

Moreover, Israel imported EUR 4 million worth of military products from Romania in the first three months of 2016, while Saudi Arabia’s imports had a value of over EUR 2 million, and Morocco’s imports amounted to some EUR 2.4 million.

Other countries that imported military products from Romania in early-2016 were India – EUR 2.15 million, Bulgaria – EUR 1.75 million, Italy – EUR 1.19 million, and Great Britain – EUR 1.03 million.

Last year, Romania’s exports of military products had a total value of over EUR 160 million.
