Romania to disclose new long-term development strategy

14 June 2016

The Romanian Government will present a long-term country project this week, which would require an impressing budget and which would completely change Romania, writes Capital.

The Development Ministry is working on a Territorial Development Strategy, which should be approved by end-July. The strategy would focus on infrastructure, health, energy, education and transport for all cities and villages across Romania, and would have to change 6 laws to be enforced.

With a 20-year planning, the upcoming strategy would offer two new crossings over the Danube in 6 years, and at least a highway connecting the regions of Moldova and Transylvania in 11 years, as well as a bike path along the Danube, to the Black Sea, in 6 years.

The Government, led by Dacian Ciolos, promises to finalize the A1 and A3 highways in the following years, as well as the Bucharest – Craiova highway, and three new highways across the Carpathians.

In healthcare, the country would build regional medical infrastructure, as well a national sports compound and infrastructure for mass sports.

For transport, the focus would be on expanding bike lanes including in near-urban areas and setting up bike sharing in all county capitals. The strategy is to implement eco public transport in cities such as Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Botoşani, Suceava, Piteşti, and Craiova.
