RO songs of the week: SPNZRTR by Robin & The Backstabbers; PPWSALVR by Pixels
As we're always on the lookout for new, cool songs to present in this column, we sometimes struggle to find something new that we definitely like. Fortunately more often than not, we actually have too many options, and as we're eager to give them all to our readers, we're in danger of turning the column into Romanian song of the day.
This week the tie was between these two Romanian bands, Robin & the Backstabbers and Pixels. And it was impossible to choose, so despite all SEO wisdom, we present both of them in one single article. We liked them that much!
Robin & the Backstabbers will launch this song and its video on November 13, while the Pixels have just launched their new album, including this song. And even though it was totally unintentional, the two songs have something else in common – both their names include a bunch of letters without a lot of meaning at first.
As much as we tried to figure out what SPNZRTR- the name of Robin & the Backstabbers's song means, we could only guess, so probably best to wait for the launch and hopefully they'll explain a bit. Meanwhile we'll just listen to the song over and over. The Youtube audio below is not of the best quality, so for better audio head to the band's My Space page. You'll enjoy it more and if you understand a bit of Romanian, (for example - I need bullets, not advice) . Ah, and thank you Cristian Lupsa of Decat o Revista for helping us discover this new song.
The second one, called PPWSALVR, comes from a band called Pixels (in picture). As they sing in English, it was hard at first to figure out whether they are Romanian or not. And they are, and their sound is very good. A strong sound that stays with you, and makes you want to listen to it again and again. Here's the song below. The whole album is called Take Over Control (TKVRCTRL; and now the weird name mystery is solved) and was launched end October. You can download the single from the band's website.
Until next time, enjoy these two. And if you have ideas for new stuff we should listen to, email corina@romania-insider.com. We like music and we like to get cool emails.
