Retail sector grows by 7% in Romania

The retail sector will grow by 7% in Romania this year, compared to an average 1% increase in the EU, according to a GfK survey.

The Baltic countries will see a growth of 5%, similar to Sweden, whereas the retail growth in Spain will reach 4% this year.

Romania’s purchasing power is one of the lowest in Europe and the situation is similar to the one in the former Soviet countries, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Albania. The purchasing power increased in Bucharest and in the Cluj and Timis counties last year, according to the GfK study.

The purchasing power in the EU grew by 3.7% on average last year over 2014.
